Rio de Janeiro’s Best Event Districts
Rio spreads across bays, lagoons and mountains, and every district comes with its own backdrop. The Zona Sul has the palace hotels and the rooftop pools. The port has the museums and the warehouses. Barra carries the big conference halls. Between them, these eight districts cover almost any format a visiting team will want, from a chef’s table for twenty to a congress at Riocentro. Each block below names the venues in that district, and the map shows where they sit.

Copacabana & Ipanema — Best for Receptions & Rooftop Evenings
Four kilometres of seafront hotels, and the Rio most visitors picture before they land. The Copacabana Palace takes up to 1,790 guests across its function rooms, and Mee, its Michelin-starred pan-Asian restaurant, suits the smaller table. Lumio, the Palace’s new Italian room beside the pool, opens on 3 November. Further along Avenida Atlântica the Emiliano and the Fairmont both run rooftop pools, and the Fairmont adds a ballroom for 600. In Ipanema, the Fasano rooftop holds 100 for sunset with the beach below.
Venues: Copacabana Palace, Mee, Lumio, Emiliano, Fairmont, Fasano

Leblon & Jardim Botânico — Best for Private Dinners
Leblon is where Rio’s own money eats out. Ocyá keeps its dry-aged fish on show behind glass in the middle of the room, which gives a hosted dinner its opening conversation. Inland, Casa Camolese sits at the Jockey Club racecourse across from the botanical garden, with a restaurant, a bar and a garden terrace for up to 200. Blockchain.RIO held its C-level evening there in 2026. Across the road, the botanical garden gives arriving guests a walk under the royal palms before they sit down.
Venues: Ocyá, Casa Camolese

Botafogo — Best for Chef’s Tables
Botafogo looks straight at Sugarloaf across a bay full of moored boats, halfway between the beaches and the centre. Oteque serves its tasting menu in a restored house. Book it privately and the dinner stops being part of the programme and becomes the reason people came. Its position helps too: a dinner here is within easy reach of the Zona Sul hotels and the centre alike.
Venues: Oteque

Santa Teresa & the Serra — Best for Sunset Drinks & Offsites
The hill above Lapa, reached by a yellow tram, with the bay laid out underneath. The Santa Teresa Hotel MGallery takes up to 100 on its pool deck for a sunset drink, then moves the group into Térèze, its French restaurant, for dinner. A few streets on, Aprazível sets its tables across terraces built into the hillside. For a leadership group that needs two days together, this is the most private base in central Rio.
Venues: Santa Teresa MGallery, Térèze, Aprazível

Porto Maravilha & Lapa — Best for Launches & Large Receptions
The regenerated port is where Rio builds big. The Museu do Amanhã seats up to 374 under Calatrava’s roof on Praça Mauá. Next door, the MAR takes 200 on its rooftop and up to 980 on the open floor beneath the building. Along the quay, the Píer Mauá warehouses carried Rio Innovation Week in 2026, and the Boulevard Olímpico runs along the waterfront between them. Behind the port, Lapa and its white aqueduct arches are where the city goes after midnight.
Venues: Museu do Amanhã, MAR, Píer Mauá

Cidade Nova & Centro — Best for Trade Shows & Daytime Programmes
Rio’s business district, with ExpoRio on its western side and the metro a short walk from the doors. ExpoRio hosts the main days of Blockchain.RIO each August, and its halls suit trade shows and conferences that want a central address. Around it, the financial towers of Centro fill the working day with meetings. ExpoRio also pairs well with the port, where the Museu do Amanhã and the MAR sit in the same part of the city. Blockchain.RIO spread its 2026 edition across exactly that route.
Venues: ExpoRio

Maracanã — Best for Match-Day & Concert Hospitality
Brazil’s most famous stadium, with the Maracanãzinho arena beside it for indoor sport and concerts. The NFL chose it for its first regular-season game in Rio, Ravens against Cowboys, in September 2026. For a brand, a big night here is a hospitality play: the group goes to the game, and the dinner before and the party after happen back in the Zona Sul. Guests arrive together, sit together and leave together, which is the whole point of a hospitality package.
Venues: Maracanã, Maracanãzinho

Barra da Tijuca & Barra Olímpica — Best for Conferences & Expos
Most of Rio’s big conference weeks happen here. Riocentro hosts Web Summit Rio in June, SBC Summit Rio in March, the International AIDS Conference in July and ROG.e, whose energy festival fills more than 95,000 m² of floor. Cidade das Artes gives Rio2C its six days in May. In the Olympic Park, Farmasi Arena held IEM Rio and the Cidade do Rock stages Rock in Rio. For anything at congress scale, this is the district.
Venues: Riocentro, Cidade das Artes, Farmasi Arena, Cidade do Rock

How to Choose the Right District
Start with the size of the room. Above a thousand guests, the choice is Riocentro or Cidade das Artes in Barra, ExpoRio in the centre, or the Copacabana Palace. Receptions of 100 to 600 sit best on the Copacabana and Ipanema seafront, where the rooftops and the Fairmont ballroom are, or at the MAR in the port. Seated dinners of 20 to 80 belong in Leblon, Botafogo or Santa Teresa.
Then decide what the address should say. The Palace says heritage; the Museu do Amanhã says the future, and means it literally. During Rio2C and Web Summit the working day sits in Barra and the evenings come back to the Zona Sul, where most delegates stay. For how CH3 runs events in the city, see our Rio de Janeiro event agency page.
Last, match the district to the hour. Barra, Cidade Nova and Centro do their best work in daylight, while the halls are open. Santa Teresa and the Fasano rooftop peak in the hour before sunset. Lapa and the Zona Sul rooftops take the late evening, and Maracanã runs to the kick-off.
